Storyline :

Four months before Christmas, Sarah and Matthieu Scarangelo were in a car crash, of which Sarah and her unborn baby were the only survivors. On Christmas Eve, Sarah stays home alone, where she grieves her husband and prepares to go to the hospital the next morning for the delivery. As night falls, a woman knocks on Sarah's door asking to use the phone.

When she refuses, the woman reveals that she knows Sarah and tries to force her way in. Sarah calls the police; they inspect the home and determine the woman has left, but promise to keep watch over Sarah through the night. The woman returns and tries to take Sarah's unborn child, but Sarah locks herself in the bathroom. The strange woman torments Sarah through the night and kills all who try help her.

The French are having a bit of a horror renaissance on their shores right now it would seem. After Haute Tension stirred up a tremendous hype a few years back, films like Malefique, Them, and Frontieres are doing the exact same.

But none of them have received the word of mouth that this brutal film has. Inside is a damn mean film. I think it goes too far in its excess, but that's what you have to do to shock an audience these days. And shocking it is. Can you imagine what the angry mob of parents that wanted to ban Silent Night, Deadly Night w

ould think about Inside? If you've seen it, you probably can imagine. If you haven't, I suggest giving it a spin. The less I say about the movie, the more powerful the experience will be. Inside is a film I will most likely never watch again, because I'm sure I will never forget it.

Brain Dead is exactly what the title suggests: a vapid experience that’s devoid of any sort of intellect…and I don’t think Tenney would have it any other way. Imagine if Troma produced a bizarre mash-up of Night of the Creeps and Night of the Living Dead, and you have Brain Dead. It’s an exercise in bad taste, gore, and ample nudity, which means it doesn’t aim much lower than the films that made Tenney so famous in the first place. Indeed, the director splashes grue and naked bodies all over the screen in this 90 minute romp. By no means is it a good movie, but Brain Dead is just fun and gory enough to keep your attention for most of its running time.
Brain Dead isn’t exactly a resounding success or return to glory for Tenney, but it’s a reminder that he’s capable of making some fun films if given the chance. He sticks to a boobs and blood formula that’s worked well enough for decades past, and it’ll likely be one that’s reused as long as audiences crave buxom babes and disgusting gore.

Breaking Glass will be brining this one home on October 5th through their Vicious Circle Films label. The disc will feature the usual anamorphic widescreen transfer, a 5.1 surround track, deleted scenes, a blooper reel, and a making-of documentary. Fans of low-grade schlock should check it out.

Storyline :

Storyline :

This movie made me angry and hateful, so yes, for me its a good movie.

I just saw this movie last night at the start of the fantasy film festival in berlin. It is a tough thriller which lives without fancy film locations or many people. It has an actual topic, also it was written 2005 - before the news brought the youth gang problems to public attention.

And a warning: it is not a movie to which you go on your first date. It contains scenes of torture and death, however not exploitable but necessary for the plot line and its characters, and in that way not too strong or too long.

A good movie for me is one which evokes strong emotions within the film (not against it ;-) ). If it can make me really love in a comedy, or put me under total suspense for a thriller, etc.

The story of Orozco, an embalmer in Columbia. Located in a poor and crime riddled village, Orzco provides his services for people on the downside of life. We watch as bodies are brought in to his shop and he prepares them for their funerals. As Orozco works he talks about life, his job and the people he serves. We also get to see another embalmer in the same town at work.

Clearly not for all tastes...rather most tastes, this is an in your face matter of fact document of the work of one man preparing the dead for burial. There is no cutaways, no trick shots, nothing to hide the work on the earth remains of those brought in (The film was shot on one video camera which is just pointed to record what was happening in front of it. There are no fancy anything, just a stepped up "home movie"). If you don't want to see how bodies are prepared for burial in a poor country do not see this film (its very graphic with literally blood and guts and other things). What you see is, in all probability, is a variation as to what may happen to you or a loved one one day and if you don't want to see what that entails don't look. Its tough going.

Listed by some as a horror film, the film really isn't (though what happens maybe considered horrific). This is a document of the work of a man who cares for his the people he services. You see the care he takes with each person making them look better in death then they may have looked in life. I was shocked to see how a body looking more like a doll would come in and in the time its in Orozco's hands the whole demeanor would change from thing back into a person seemingly asleep.

As you watch the film the embalming falls away and all that remains is the man himself.Orozco the man is the reason to watch the film, not the shocking images. He seems to have been a very nice man (he died after the film was completed) who seems to have been made more than a bit sad by his job and his surroundings. His take on life is unique and understandable and what ever you call it, dark, bleak, sad, it is in many ways more real than that of the lives we see on TV or in our daily interactions.

As the film went on I kept wondering if I will be lucky enough to have someone as caring as Orozco work on me when I pass over. Its a strange thought, but one can't help but ponder when viewing a film as stark as this about the end of life.

Recommended for those with strong constitutions and wishing to see a intriguing portrait of a man at work.

Recently he has been arrested by Canadian authorities for “moral corruptions” because of his web-site. Now I'm not sure if it is publicity stunt to get some people aware of his talent when it comes to special effects. Or if the Canadian government is this fucked that someone could spend time in jail for doing good FX."

The Collector [2009]

A Storyline :

Arkin, a housing contractor desperate for money to pay off his wife's debt to a loan shark breaks into the home of his wealthy employer. Believing the family to have left on vacation, Arkin soon realizes the family has never left and have been taken hostage by a sadistic killer. With the home laced with lethal and deadly traps, Arkin attempts to get both the remaining survivors and himself out of the house alive and away from the cruel Collector.

Director Dunstan's first effort after writing duties on the FEAST films and half of the SAW (and counting) franchise, is this overlooked "gem" from late last year. Dunstan rarely pulls any punches instead pounding the viewer in the face till they're numb from the reprehensible cruelty unspooling onscreen. Oddly enough, THE COLLECTOR is a slight step up from the SAW movies, a series this film will no doubt be compared to in addition to the two HOSTEL movies. For me, it bears more resemblance to the horrid, execrable mess that is NINE DEAD (2010).

I'm rarely ever high on newer horror pictures (especially American ones). I like them, but few have much in the way of staying power and cannot compare with the classics of old. However, Dunstan's movie is one of those few new horrors that will surprise you. It has enough fresh ingredients and a well drawn lead and mysteriously disturbing villain to attract a wider audience on video than it received theatrically.

Scarce : 2008

Saw,Cannibal and Hostel so one !

Plot :

SCARCE depicts the gruesome fate of three lost snowboarders trapped at an isolated forest cabin owned by two menacing locals who harvest human flesh. As the day of the slaughter nears, they attempt to escape barefoot through the frozen wilderness.

People die, there are guns and knives, a masked monster of a man and an effective ending in this well-shot cannibal ditty. I was very pleased with the entire production, especially the crispness of the film. All of the right colors popped and the film wasn’t one of those oh-so-common indie exercises in how to light a scene. The art direction was unobtrusive and basic, which was all it needed to be for this kind of film, and though some of the acting is a little off-kilter, it’s not gratingly so, and not in any of the parts that truly matter to a horror fan. Overall, this movie which was destined to be a “pass” for me turned into quite the hit, and I’m very glad I wasn’t so dumb as to not give the flick a second chance. Good for me, good for those involved with making Scarce, and good for you, the reading and viewing public, if you treat yourself to this little gem. With a perfect running time of 93 minutes, it’s something that is absolutely appropriate in all of its pacing, and doesn’t drag a bit. It’s definitely worth a view.
So, since I’m done, why not go out and pick up a copy? You’ll dig it.

The Sky is very Close...

The basic plot of Vertige is pretty lame and worn off considering that we are talking about a group of five mountain climbers who take an adventurous hike on a mountain path that goes overboard and turns into a fight for survival.

Its like Wrong Turn if you replace the woods with mountains. At first you think it could go a different direction because the first half works pretty well as a kind of adventure movie with mountain climbers. You get some pretty impressive climbing sequences with lines snapping and nice action mixed with beautiful landscape shots and some nice camera-work... as well as a pretty hot female lead actress (although she chose a pretty strange dress for that trip that gives the viewer some pretty nice views of her mountains too).

As soon as the movie turns to be a survival horror with some mountain hillbilly maniac who hunts climbers it goes overboard. There is no resolution of the obscure guy hunting the climbers and the flashback sequences about some mishappenings in the life of the female lead who seems to be a doctor are pretty meaningless and cheap.

Vertige is a typical style over substance movie with a giant letdown in the end and a plot that is as paper thin as the clichéd character development. Anyone who has high hopes for another great french horror movie should stay away from this. The action sequences are really good but i doubt thats enough for a feature movie. first turns out closed and on further investigation becomes quite stressful when bridges break and cables burst.

Hatchet : 2007

wow, really horrible, nobody there were no survivors in this movies,

The movie to me, is pretty much a variation of "The Burning" in my opinion. There are a lot of things similar in the plot department. The basic story is some people want to go on a haunted tour in the New Orleans swamps, and they get their wish along with a story about the spirit of a Victor Crowley who was hideously deformed at birth, and accidentally hit in the head with a hatchet by his Father when their house caught fire, the Father was trying to save him. So the Father has long since died from grief, but old disfigured hatchet in the face Victor is supposed to still be around there in spirit. The boat the people are taking the tour on hits some rocks and starts to sink, so they have to go to land, and that's when they come up on Victor's former house. It's not long until Victor shows up, and he's portrayed by Kane Hodder with some pretty fair makeup. It's slicing and dicing time with plenty of blood and some excellent gore, that I'm afraid people going to see the theatrical version will miss. There's nothing original and all that great about this movie, it's basically just another slasher film with some obvious humor, and excellent gore effects. The main thing myself and what I heard from other people after it was over, is the ending really sucks. I won't say anymore, because I know many out there haven't seen it yet, but this first "Hatchet" almost seems like an introduction to the sequel, which is already in the works. Now get this, "Hatchet" is being released next month on both DVD and in the theaters, and all ready, the sequel is pretty much ready to start.

So I guess, Victor is supposed to be the new Jason, Freddy, and Michael, all rolled up into one. All I have to say about that, is bullshit. Don't end a frigging movie like they did, totally setting up a sequel. For that reason, I came away with a rather negative feeling, even though I loved all the blood and gore. I think "Hatchet" is being over-hyped, in fact, WAY over-hyped, and a lot of horror/gore fans are going to be a little let down, especially with the awful ending.

Storyline :

In Ebensse, the teenagers Nina, her boyfriend Martin, Clemens, his girlfriend Alex and Mona are best friends since their childhood. Ah, Austria ... Unquestionably one of the most beautiful countries in the world and the cinematic home of the famous "Sissi"-movies, millions of vintage Tiroler sex comedies and probably a handful of thankfully obscure yodel musicals as well. And thanks to director Andreas Prochaska, Austria now also has its very own teen-slasher-movie! Prochaska clearly was fed up with the enchanting postcard-image reputation of his home country and uses the exact same picturesque lakes and flowery decorated mountain hotels as the hunting territory of a demented serial killer. "Dead in Three Days" blends together the prior-warning idea of "The Ring" with the more traditional and old-fashioned maniacal tendencies of "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and the wholesome results in an overall competent, albeit unmemorable new horror film.

On their long-awaited day of university graduation, five close friends all receive the same text message on their mobile phones. In three days you'll be dead, which naturally sounds like a lame college prank. Of course, it isn't a joke and the teenagers quickly find themselves pursued by a killer who has an old score to settle with the clique. "Dead in Three Days" is too slow-paced to really compete with the vintage slashers of the 80's and the script spends too much time on the detailed character drawings. The plot as well as the killer's outfit is too derivative of many existing slashers – especially the aforementioned IKWYDLS – and there nearly isn't enough tension and/or spectacle. The gore-factor and killing scenes are unmemorable, with the exception of one awesomely grim decapitation sequence! "Dead in Three Days" is okay entertainment for avid slasher-fans to pass the time but, of course, if it wouldn't be for the fact that Austria has few or even no history in the genre of horror, this mundane teenkill-film would barely even make it to DVD.

HAZE : 2005

Storyline :

A man wakes up to find himself locked in a tiny, cramped concrete room, in which he can barely move. He doesn't remember why he is there and where he came from. He has a terrible stomach injury and is slowly bleeding to death. He begins to explore the narrow confines of his prison and crawls around the maze-like room, only to see a horrible vision of hell waiting for him at each end of the room.

Finally he gives up on the struggle and collapses in exhaustion. Then he begins to remember images from his past. Clinging to these images he creeps forward with the last ounces of his strength and meets a woman in a place that stinks of rotting corpses. The man and the woman both try to recall where they came from, but their memories are so uncertain that they are not even sure they want to return. The man is ready to give up but the woman insists on going forward. Neither of them can imagine the incredible end to the journey

This movie, although only 40 minutes long, sends Saw and Cube back to kindergarten, making it look stupid, shallow and pointless. Once again Shinya Tsukamoto proves that he is one of the most challenging, thought-provoking and original directors of today, absolutely not afraid of pushing boundaries in terms of what might be shown on celluloid. And he knows pretty well what scares us, oh yes. It's like your worst, fever-induced nightmares come surprisingly alive, and I'm not talking about waking up in a completely darkened, concrete maze.

It might be a parallel for war, genocide or just totally painful, desperate loneliness... or just a statement that, after all, we are nothing more than a piece of meat which happened to have a tiny spark of life inside... This movie raises so many questions... and even if most of them remain unanswered, it is worth to feel really uncomfortable for this 40 minutes. Some people will probably start having nightmares like this, but for me it was more like a relief that Tsukamoto and his protagonist lived it for me...

Plot Storyline :

I really enjoyed this movie a great deal. From the start, knowing the synopsis in advance, caused the audience, myself included, to be on edge.

The way it was filmed merely adding to that. The tension was high enough that one woman in the audience gasped when the speaker crackled!.The comic moments in the film was used skilfully to lighten the tone between violent and gripping drama (are you listening Oliver Stone). These funny moments are truly hilarious, but are themselves edgy.

My scale used when viewing a film is how long before I look at my watch. Well this one got 1 hour 15 minutes, a good score. Benchmarks - Open Water - 15 minutes, Hero - who needs a watch.

Go and see this film, you will not be disappointed.

I thought this was a true original and it made me break out in a sweat at certain points. Not many films have a physical effect on their audience.

There were some astonishing moments and scene transitions that were literally breathtaking. I didn't believe the director had put certain things in to solely shock as some people have suggested. The film looks very lush in style and there were some stunning compositions. My favourite story was the final one with the sickly grandson of the original character.

I am trying to source 'Hukkle' now as I want to see more by this director. I have not seen anything this interesting for some time. This film lingers in my mind.

Have seen a lot of horrors and this isn't one of them, no thrill, no build up and certainly no suspense. If seeing people raped and mutilated is your thing then this is for you. However, have to recommend any of the saw's for a proper build up where you are honestly left wondering whats coming next.

To Create a story, in this film you have to prove evidence of your love to your partner, not just in words but also through actions

This movie is sadistic, horrible, because, torture too cruel to prove it

Dead Snow, which should have had the name "Red Snow" , but could not because there already is a film with such a name, and from where.. jepp Norway that one too. We got a thing for snow, and man did it turn out good in this one. I think they somehow got to combine the mayhem and fun from some of the classics, at the same time as they capture a bit of Norwegian fun with the music and scenery.

I definitely recommend the movie, for those who are fans of Zoombies and gore.

It's been fun reading the comments and what people think of the movie, and seeing such an attention for a zombie film from Norway.

HORDE : Land of Zombie (2009)

Storyline :

A posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead are the centre point of this gruesome, tight, action packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape. Penned like animals, on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, these two opposing gangs find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death. Joining forces to survive, they must reach ground level together or perish.

Loaded with a bad ass attitude, guns, axes and extremely creative hand-to-hand combat sequences that project the fears and paranoia that are the fighting forces behind the need to survive, when caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The French have been enjoying something of a horror renaissance in recent years, giving us some of the scariest and bloodiest movies that the genre has had to offer; La Horde, an apocalyptic zombie movie in the vein of Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead and Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, continues this trend, being a hugely entertaining Gallic gore-fest packed with superbly executed edge-of-the-seat horror action.

The film sees a team of vigilante cops break into a dilapidated tower block in order to exact justice on the gangsters responsible for the death of one of their colleagues; the vicious criminals turn the tables on the lawmen, however, but before they can carry out the execution of their prisoners, an outbreak of the undead forces a change of plan: the bad guys must reluctantly team up with the cops if they stand any chance of escaping from the zombie infested building alive.

Although the whole zombie siege schtick has been done to death since Romero's Night of the Living Dead way back in '68, directors Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher attack their oft-told tale with so much vigour that this fact is easily forgiven. The spot-on direction, excellent decayed urban setting, gloriously splattery effects (enhanced by carefully considered use of CGI), and a whole lot of extreme fire-power combine to deliver a non-stop roller-coaster ride of splendidly gory action, whilst well drawn characters with emotional depth serve to enrich the film's basic set-up.

With several brutal fist-fights between the living and the hideous screeching zombies, a thrilling, bullet riddled, blood drenched last half hour and a satisfyingly bleak, but perfectly fitting ending, La Horde is not only one of the most enjoyable of the new-wave of French horror films, but also one of the most kick-ass zombie films ever.

This remake of HG Lewis's classic exploitation horror of the 60s, leaves much of the hayseed humour intact while using today's more permissive attitudes to crank up the sex and gore aspects. Sometimes its difficult to be sure what you're watching – a bad sex flick or a bad horror pic – but either way, the certainty that the makers aren't really too bothered about the artistic or creative merit of their work leaves you feeling strangely forgiving of its shortcomings. And you can bet your life that Lewis would have been showing the same kind of thing as this flick if he'd been able to get away with it back in 1964.

The story remains fairly close to the original: a group of yankees are diverted through Pleasant Valley by detour signs deliberately placed by the town's inhabitants and find themselves picked off in grisly and imaginative ways as they discover that they are the menu for the town's jubilee barbecue. I seem to remember some of Lewis's killings were a bit more imaginative, though: where was the death by barrel? The luckless strangers are also no longer married couples but the kind of randy youngsters seen only in horror films and American Pie movies, and you don't really feel sorry for any of them as they stumble blindly towards their inevitable deaths..

The acting's pretty lousy in this one, and some of the Civil War Southern belles look (and dress) like they've just stepped from the pages of a Playboy centre-spread, but the tongue in cheek quality of the humour prevents it from being just another horror flick. Robert Englund stands out as the town's one-eyed mayor but it is the gory deaths that it will attract most fans of the genre, and they're not likely to be disappointed.

In some ways routine and in some ways interesting, this splatter heavy horror flick at least doesn't skimp on thrills. It stars Laura Breckenridge as Mary, who during Spring Break has a little too much to drink. During her drive home she unknowingly strikes a man and he gets stuck on her bumper - which she doesn't realize until she gets home. Acting out of pain and rage, he lashes out at her and she whacks at him with a golf club hard enough to finish him off - or so she thinks. While it does succumb to the genre cliché of having a "villain" who's hard to kill, it does work in terms of a story where things just keep spiralling out of control. Neither main character is completely sympathetic, which does help. And neither character is completely one-dimensional. Unfortunately, "Hit and Run" is one of those modern genre flicks that goes for the flamboyant visual a little too often, for example, camera angles and editing. This really wasn't necessary. Credit needs to go to the director, Enda McCallion, in one respect. This film never ever stops moving; the pacing is excellent. "Hit and Run" might be some things, but boring isn't one of them. It's basically decent, gory and visceral entertainment. It's a dark film but is still rather compelling and never goes too far over the top. It even has the nerve not to have a standard, clichéd ending. The acting is acceptable in the main roles, with Kevin Corrigan - a guy you may have seen in films ranging from "GoodFellas" to "The Departed" to "Pineapple Express" - doing fine as the sullen, disturbed antagonist. Overall, it's perfectly watchable and maintains a good energy level for 84 minutes.
