Hae-won is a beautiful single woman in her thirties who works at a bank in the Seoul city. She leads a busy life until she becomes a witness to an attempted murder case, and at the same time, things get complicated at work. When things get out of hand she is forced to take a vacation so she heads for 'Moodo', a small undeveloped island, where she had once visited to see her grandparents. And where she had befriended a girl named Bok-nam who stills writes to Hae-won asking her to visit despite the fact that Hae-won never bothered to reply. I saw this before GROWTH and enjoyed it infinitely more. There was much more of a story here and the horror was to a level that I was more or less expecting. it is not a great horror film but it is entertaining and works well and I like the ending, not disappointed at all.
Lots of blood and gore and you shouldn't have to wonder why this or that happened when it did, just enjoy the movie.
Again no star names and again it is a movie aimed at the teenage market. I am no teenager anymore but this is fine, though I am not sure what the bits are which were considered unsuitable for cinema release.
by comparison it is a poor mans WRONG TURN but don't worry about that.
When the girl was hitching a ride early on in the movie, I did wonder how the driver died (or was killed) by Basement Jack? Didn't figure that out.
Bound to be divided on this one but for a movie on a small budget it serves up well

Storyline :
based on story : I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE 1978 Writer Jennifer Hills (Butler) takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer's presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally depraved locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn't about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer's sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse.

Out of the many violent films I've seen from the notorious french horrors FRONTIER(S), INSIDE and MARTYRS, to the very disturbing JACK KETCHUM'S THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, there is only one film that makes a greater impact than all of them and that is the 2010 remake of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, even though its also very violent and extremely disturbing, its the only one that really gets you thinking.
For instance say you as a woman were the victim of the kind of torture depicted in this film or you as a man had a girlfriend who was raped by these types of men in this film and when it gets to the part where Jennifer starts to exact her revenge, would the acts of revenge in this film be the kind of ordeal you'd want to put the people responsible through?
Because I'm sure every single person at some point in their lives have plotted a form of revenge against the people that did them wrong and that's what this film is, a story about a woman that was humiliated, beaten, tortured and raped and that exacts the kind of revenge that anyone who was put through something like this would exact, some of the scenes few people might say are far fetched but so are some people's ideas and most of all, if you heard the person responsible for your whole ordeal start to beg and plead for his life, would you show sympathy or would you remember when you begged and pleaded for them to stop when they never did?
This film hits all these notes and believe it or not if you really look at it certain way, you'd be asking yourself these same questions and I'm sure that even Roger Ebert who gave the film zero stars has also at one stage in his life plotted revenge against someone.
Overall, its ten times the film the original was and it is thought provoking in the most unique way, definitely a classic film of its genre.

A movie I had to see at this years Frighfest was The Tortured; a movie that puts the viewer in the hot seat and asks them what they would do. Elise and Craig (Erika Christensen and Jesse Metcalfe respectively) are living an idyllic life with there young son Ben, that is until the day that Craig goes looking for sunscreen for their son. While searching through drawers, Ben is kidnapped by an incredibly dangerous man. After days of abuse the man murders Ben; who is captured and tried for his crimes. For Elise in particular the sentence does not warrant the crime and she begins to look at what she can do to ensure that suitable revenge is had for her son’s death. In a moment of well planned strategy killer Kozlowski (Bill Moseley) finds himself under the couple custody, who decide that he must go through the same torture, abuse, and finally death that their son went through.
Having been one of the movies I most wanted to see, The Tortured was one of the movies I was most disappointed with from this year’s festival. It’s very similar to the style of the Saw movies (and shares the same producers), right down to the rather restructured recap of events that happened from the start of the movie, allowing you to see events with slightly different eyes.
It’s a labored piece of work, which while it seems there is always something going on, is fairly dragged out. Elise and Craig go through stages of playing good cop bad cop to Kozlowski, as one minute they want more suffering the next less. You kind of wish that they would just get on with it, as this toying is just frustrating for the viewer. Never at any point does the tension build up to a suitable level; it all just plods along slowly.
The effects are fairly good, with bones being broken and some rather blunt impromptu surgery.
While the end of movie twist is quite good, you can’t help but realize you saw it coming a mile off (if of course you watch a lot of similar movies). But in honesty that’s where the praise ends. It’s not a bad movie, it’s just not a good one; the moral dilemma is clear, but you’re given nothing new. You do not at any point think that you are seeing something different to any other movie, its all very much a case of been there done that, now please move on.
Insane, sadistic director Lucifer Valentine completes his Vomit Gore Trilogy with Slow Torture Puke Chamber!, the final chapter in the continuing “adventures” of Angela, the teen runaway who’s been subjected to some of the most graphic and horrifying tortures we’ve ever seen put to video in the first two installments. Again, Valentine uses horrifying tortures, excessive vomiting, excessive bloodletting and excessive nudity (often combined all together) to make some social critique and some spiritual observations… none of which will get through to you as you try to hide your eyes, resist the urge to vomit and, maybe, play with yourself a little. If you’re a little bit squeamish, easily offended or anything like that, don’t watch this movie – you will run from the room screaming and crying in no time.

This sequel picks up right at the end of the 2006 with Marybeth (now played by Danielle Harris) escaping the swamp. She goes to Rev. Zombie (Tony Todd) who informs her that her father, uncle and another man were the ones who originally murdered Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder), the maniac in the swamp who just killed all her friends.
Marybeth and Zombie gather up a group of hunters and head back to the swamp so that they can kill the hatchet-faced madman once and for all. HATCHET was a film that pretty much came out of nowhere and became a cult favorite very quickly. I enjoyed the film a lot and while this sequel isn't quite as good there's still plenty to enjoy. I'll admit right off the top that this is a fairly good throwback to the 80s slasher craze as we got the same type of killer and of course the different variety of characters. We have the voodoo priest, the dumb rednecks and of course a few sluts thrown in for some nudity. The screenplay doesn't take anything too serious and the story, while unoriginal, at least offers up some decent kill scenes. Speaking of the kill scenes, I must say that a lot of creativity went into them and old school horror fans are going to be happy to know that the majority of effects are real and not just some CGI crap. One of the most memorable scenes has a guy getting the back of his head sandblasted and there's another classic scene with a chainsaw that I won't ruin.
The final shots of the movie, again, I won't ruin them, is pure mayhem and I must admit that it was rather priceless and I'm sure fans will be talking about it for years into the future. Most horror fans will always remember Harris from HALLOWEEN 4 and 5 but she turns in a pretty good performance here. Her character has a little more drama than just someone standing around waiting to scream and I think the actress handled the part well. Todd is always delightful in any movie so it's good seeing him with a pretty big part.
Hodder not only serves as the large killer but he also gets to play the mutant's father in a flashback sequence. Tom Holland, director of films like FRIGHT NIGHT, THINNER and CHILD'S PLAY also appears here. The rest of the supporting cast fill their parts nicely but none of them stick out too much. Being a real throwback means we get some nudity, which comes in a couple very funny ways with a video camera but we also get a classic sex scene like none that I've ever seen.
There are several attempts at comedy that fail in the film but this sex scene works very well. I think there are a few too many dry spots in the movie but overall the film delivers enough of what fans are going to be wanting.
Madness plays like a student-made homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre / Hills Have Eyes etc. The acting is so terrible it is unintentionally hilarious, as I doubt any of the cast have any acting skill / experience whatsoever. The plot is basically non-existent and much of the characters actions make no sense at all. The strange thing is that it features Swedish actors playing American characters, who are travelling across backwoods USA, but it is actually filmed on location in Sweden. And the 'bad guys' talk in Swedish whilst the 'good guys' all talk in English with heavy Swedish accents. Rather bizarre.
The violence is pretty brutal and senseless, with some rather effective gore effects (given the shoestring budget), although the violence becomes rather stale, generic and uncreative, with no stand-out set-pieces.
The film does have a kind of lo-fi charm, and probably would have been more entertaining had the film-makers acknowledged this by making the movie more 'tongue-in-cheek' rather than the stark and serious tone they have tried to set. The one redeeming factor is that the whole thing (including writing / directing / shooting / editing / effects) was all carried out by a team of three guys, quite an admirable effort.
Also, it's rather hard to hate on a movie that keeps it's two female lead characters in cheerleader outfits the whole time.
There is no denying the impact the Saw series has had on not only the horror genre, but movies in general. Starting off as a little low-budget psychological thriller centred around two guys in a basement, this series has smashed box office records and created a new horror villain in Jigsaw. Since 2004 audiences have flocked to watch new victims meet their demise in an inventive and cruel way while relishing the inane plot twists and convoluted story, whilst others have condemned the series as "torture porn" and nothing but sick people coming up with sick traps for sick audiences.
This latest entry stays true to its predecessors and delivers over-the-top, ultra-violent death scenes accompanied by a plot full of flash backs, surprise revelations and an overuse of the main theme. To explain the plot of Saw 3D is silly, as the whole point of a Saw film is to go in having no idea about any of the trips or twists and to enjoy them as they come at you from every which way. I will say; however, that the film does end well, and the story is wrapped up fairly nicely with no obvious need for a sequel (as this is hopefully the "final" film).
Overall the film is very much the same as Saw VI (2009) which was also directed by Kevin Greutert. Like many of the sequels this has multiple stories going at once, but it doesn't quite gel. It all feels very choppy, and after awhile the sheer amount of changing scenes can get quite annoying as it takes away from the suspense which is often built up quite well. The editing, lighting, camera-work and music is all the same as the other entries, by now it is stock standard Saw settings. Jigsaw's traps are back and they are as nasty as ever, if there is one thing this movie delivers on, is fantastic gore. A word of caution (although you may be expecting this now): the 3D is a total waste of money and there are one or two cool effects utilised in the whole 90 minute movie. Do NOT expect something cool just because it was filmed in 3D, cos it ain't any better than the post-conversion films.
On a final note, I have never been a huge fan of the Saw series, but looking back it has been an interesting ride. The first film, although flawed, had a great new concept and a shocking twist. Unfortunately the sequels took away from the first, creating a story based around traps and trying to fit as many twists in as possible. These last two entries by Greutert have been two of the strongest (as well as Saw III), but there are still glaring issues that prevent it from being a great movie. Saw fans will not be disappointed, anyone else should probably stay away unless you like buckets of blood and don't care about understanding the story! 3/5
